Pendant from the Gnezdovo treasure K3-30P
The history of this pendant is reminiscent of an adventure novel. Gnezdovo is a village on the banks of the Dnieper, in the Smolensk region. In 1867, during the construction of the Orlovo-Vitebsk railway, a treasure was accidentally found near this village. It consisted of two copper cauldrons filled to the brim with various items - among the finds were coins and glass beads, an iron hatchet, two silver lunnitsas... Among them was this women's amulet pendant made of silver.
Material: patinated (blackened) bronze
The product is made of bronze - an ancient alloy, "born" 5 thousand years ago. Bronze is copper with a small amount of tin added: thanks to this additive, the alloy becomes stronger than pure copper. Dark spots on the products are the result of blackening, that is, chemical and heat treatment of the metal. All the shiny surfaces are pure metal, polished to a mirror shine, which can be preserved if you regularly wipe the product with a soft (flannel or wool) cloth, preferably lubricated with GOI paste, or use "folk" methods.
